Business Spotlight: Shannon Hart Bodywork
Small businesses and the people who own and work in them are the heart of our Edmonds community. To keep our downtown thriving, it’s more critical than ever that we think local first.
In this new series, we will be highlighting independently-owned businesses, and learn more about the folks that make them run!
Meet Shannon Hart from Shannon Hart Bodywork
What is your favorite part of your business?
Participating in meaningful work. I have worked many jobs that left me feeling like my time and energy had been wasted on something insignificant. The need for relief from pain and stress is considerable, especially now during a global pandemic.
Why did you choose Edmonds for your business?
Edmonds chose me. I wasn’t planning on starting a massage therapy business during a pandemic, but an opportunity presented itself and I said yes.
What is unique about your business?
While my work is grounded in the basics of Swedish massage, I am also trained in a variety of more therapeutic massage techniques. For example, Myofascial Release, Scar Tissue massage, and Lymphatic Facilitation. As a result of this variety, my practice is adaptable and collaborative. The work can be more strong or subtle, more treatment or relaxation, more technical or intuitive; whatever best suits your needs.
Why should people do business with you?
If you are tired of doctors telling you about your body; I am here to witness to the intuitions and particularities of your pain. If you think you cannot afford massage; I offer a sliding scale and discounts to make my business more accessible. If you are trying to live a healthier lifestyle; I can offer my support to help you reach your wellness goals.
What are you currently doing differently during this time?
I have many policies and procedures in place, determined by the DOH guidelines. You can read more about them on the home page of my website.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
My first job was at a traveling Circus in Cincinnati as a stilt walker, face painter, balloon artist, and living statue.
