Business Spotlight: The Curious Nest

Small businesses and the people who own and work in them are the heart of our Edmonds community. They make our downtown unique, authentic and welcoming.

In this series, we highlight the independently-owned businesses of Downtown Edmonds, and learn more about the folks that make them run!

Meet Andrea Savar and Laurent Gallego from The Curious Nest.

What is your favorite part of your business?
We love helping people find something special for gifts or self. Also finding rare or curious objects in our travels to bring back home for our Edmonds clientele.

Why did you start your business?
I began selling my art in galleries in 1994 before moving to France. When my husband, Laurent, and I returned to the US, 18 years ago, we wanted to combine our love for art with our love for antiques and created the Curious Nest together.

Why did you choose Edmonds for your business?
We live in Edmonds and love the community. Our shop began in Seattle, but we moved it six years ago to Edmonds and couldn’t be happier

What is unique about your business?
We are dedicated to finding items over 100 years old as to truly be considered antiques. Our antiques are often rare and always intriguing. In addition to antiques, everything in our shop is either handmade by me (jewelry, clothing, artwork, books), created by local artists, small batch (no mass produced), delicacies from France, Spain, Belgium and local.

Why should people do business with you?
We are a small husband and wife team that loves when clients leave happy. We hope to provide a space to see items that just are outside of the ordinary. We also try to have items in a large price range, from antique skeleton keys to antique paintings and everything in-between.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I am a citizen of The Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma and award winning artist for my beadwork and paintings. Laurent and I both speak multiple languages, if you want to practice your French while shopping, we’ve got you covered!

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about your business?
One of our goals is to have items that are unique, beautiful, sustainable and ethically sourced and full of wonder. We hope people leave our store curiously delighted by the variety of items and careful curation.
