Business Spotlight: Workhorse HQ

Small businesses and the people who own and work in them are the heart of our Edmonds community. To keep our downtown thriving, it’s more critical than ever that we think local first.

In this new series, we will be highlighting independently-owned businesses, and learn more about the folks that make them run!

Meet Lew Estabrook and Larry Maurer from Workhorse HQ

What is your favorite part of your business?
Our favorite part of our business is that we get to provide a resource for the hard-working community in Edmonds that isn’t home and isn’t a big office they have to commute across the city to sit in. There are so many different ways to work in today’s world and we’re proud to have a space that supports all kinds of work styles. We also love getting to know all of our members!

Why did you start your business?
We started our business because we saw a need in the community and we had the space to fill it. The original idea came from Greg at the Chamber, who walked through an office area we had open. We loved it, so we ran with it and built most of what you see at Workhorse HQ ourselves. If it wasn’t built by us, it was thoughtfully sourced—reclaimed wood bleachers are our countertops, bricks from a building in Brooklyn, etc.

Why did you choose Edmonds for your business?
We chose Edmonds for Workhorse HQ because we already owned the Waterworks building and we love Edmonds. We heard there was a need for a co-working space, so we set out to create it.

What is unique about your business?
We are the first and only co-working space in Edmonds. We have local drinks, meeting space, fast and free WiFi, and a place to land for people who don’t want to or can’t go to an office and don’t want to or can’t work from home.

Why should people do business with you?
People should do business with us because they want a productive place to work and they want to be a part of a community of like-minded people.

What are you currently doing differently during this time?
We are offering Workhorse Academy to support virtual schooling as well as offering parents two for one memberships this summer. We are casual and lightly staffed with COVID precautions in place.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
Workhorse HQ is owned by two area doctors who love Edmonds. This is a new type of business for them and we’re all learning a lot along the way!

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about your business?
We are here to support the Edmonds community and always listening to member feedback. We’re also expanding to offer more space to our members within the next year—stay tuned!
