Enjoy Boo-tiful Downtown Edmonds!
As the days shorten and the air turns crisp, it’s time once again for some beloved seasonal activities. You can stay right here in Edmonds and get your fill of mystery, macabre, and spook-tacular fun!
Annual Scarecrow Festival & Hunt
Each year dozens of businesses, organizations and residents take part in the Edmonds Scarecrow Festival. The event is sponsored by the Edmonds Historical Museum and 2018 marks the sixth year of this family-friendly event.
From traditional to comical, the entries never fail to delight onlookers.
Dave Buelow from the Edmonds Historical Museum told us, “New this year is the Scarecrow Hunt. Five businesses in the bowl will have special hidden numbered medallions on their Scarecrow Festival sign. Entry forms will be at those businesses and on the Historical Museum website to download. Fill them out, return to the museum or the business sporting the numbered medallions, and winners will be drawn at the festival reception on November 5th.”
Another addition to this year’s festival is a partnership with Coastal Bank who is opening a new branch in Edmonds. Special “clue balls” will be placed among the scarecrow entries. If you find a ball, take it into the new Coastal Bank branch to be redeemed for a glass pumpkin.
Each year, people make a point to travel by foot or car all over Edmonds to see the variety of scarecrows. A map will be updated on the festival website so you can plan your own personal scarecrow tour.
We’ve been told many businesses right in the downtown core are taking part this year including Sound Styles, Insurance Services Group, Walnut Street Coffee, Windermere Real Estate, The Wooden Spoon, Comstock Jewelers, Revelations Yogurt, Anchor Chic, and Edmonds Bookshop and many more.
While you are making your way around town, pop into the coffee shops, cafes, and restaurants for a quick snack or beverage to keep you warm and fueled up.
Registration is free and is open until October 15th. Make sure to visit the website or stop by the museum between October 16th and November 2nd to cast your vote for your favorite entry. To check out last year’s winners (or be inspired for your own creation), check out their photo gallery.
BodyVox’s “BloodyVox” at ECA
Want to watch zombies, ghosts, and other frightful characters twirl across the stage? On the evening of October 27th, Edmonds Center for the Arts presents a performance of “BloodyVox”.
Full of amazing dancers, BloodyVox promises “a dance theater experience that mines cinema, folklore, and our collective nightmares to bring the season of spirits and All Hallows’ Eve to life.”
Before the show come in costume to a special Halloween Happy Hour from 6 to 7pm featuring $5 drinks with specialty cocktails. They will have a haunted selfie station, trick or treats, and fun for all ages.
While the spectacle aims to be spooky, the performance is deemed family-friendly. The show starts at 7:30pm and tickets are available online now.
Halloween Trick-or-Treat Night
Every Halloween the streets of downtown Edmonds are closed to traffic and come alive with thousands of costumed revelers of all types (including pets).
This safe, free, and family-friendly celebration has become a beloved tradition over the years. While children make their way down the sidewalks to trick or treat participating downtown Edmonds businesses, grown-ups have a blast watching the adorable parade of costumes.
If you are without little ones, you can pull up a chair at several spots on the route to nosh and sip as you people watch, including Taki Tiki, Thai Cottage, Las Brisas, Red Twig, and Chanterelle.
The event is hosted by the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce and runs from 5:00 to 7:00pm along 5th Avenue and Main Street (map available here). Enjoy music and dancing near the fountain (and perhaps a chained up zombie) along with the annual costume contest. Contest categories include ages 0-6 yrs, 7-12 yrs, 13-17 yrs, 18+ yrs, group costumes, and pets.
Other Ghoulishly Good Times around Town
Every Saturday in October is “Shocktober” with special scary screenings of classic horror movies each week at 9pm at the Edmonds Theater. Rumor has it the building is haunted: a glowing shadowy figure has reportedly been seen walking the aisles…
