Business Spotlight: Bench & Board

Small businesses and the people who own and work in them are the heart of our Edmonds community. To keep our downtown thriving, it’s more critical than ever that we think local first.

In this new series, we will be highlighting independently-owned businesses, and learn more about the folks that make them run!

Meet Jill Hall and Shannon Yates from Bench & Board

What is your favorite part of your business?
Getting to know our customers and meeting great makers.

Why did you start your business?
To focus on being creative and connect with the community!

Why did you choose Edmonds for your business?
I think this is a great community for small business. My family loves spending time in Edmonds shopping, dining, and attending all of the fantastic community events.

What is unique about your business?
We focus on trying to find handmade artisan housewares and gifts. We carry beautiful wood products, pottery, linen, candles, and many other great gifts. Our goal is to have our customers love their purchases. We test most of the products out prior to selling them in our shop. We also sell some art and jewelry made by store owner Jill Hall.

Why should people do business with you?
We hope to bring special gift, household, and artisan products to our customers to encourage the spirit of small business and being able to shop locally. We are a veteran and minority owned small family business. We have supported local organizations through spend campaigns such as the Edmonds Food Bank and our holiday wreath sale, as well as our Army v. Navy game donations to the local VFW Post 8870. We love seeing the community fun and sponsored Santa’s Mail Box this holiday seasons with the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce. We are both Edmonds Chamber Members and Rotarians.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
A fun fact about us is that we love to travel. One of our “bucket list” goals is visit all of the National Parks throughout the US. We photograph our journeys through them, many of which are available in our store!

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about your business?
We are so glad to be in Edmonds and are so happy to be meeting so many great customers and neighbors! Thanks for all of the support as we get our business off of the ground!
