Business Spotlight: Gallery North

Small businesses and the people who own and work in them are the heart of our Edmonds community. To keep our downtown thriving, it’s more critical than ever that we think local first.

In this new series, we will be highlighting independently-owned businesses, and learn more about the folks that make them run!

Meet Lonni Flowers from Gallery North.

What is your favorite part of your business?
I love seeing customers eyes light up when they see a piece of artwork that draws them in. The interactions with customers are just the best!

Why did you start your business?
Obviously, I did not start the gallery, but have been a part of this venture for over 6 years. I joined Gallery North because of the camaraderie among the members of the gallery who are all very talented people.

Why did you choose Edmonds for your business?
I moved here to be close to my children and to continue to pursue my art career and this is a fabulously artistic community. I love the proximity to the waterfront and find the locale to be a perfect place to paint.

What is unique about your business?
Our gallery is operated by multiple artists who are all local. Most of the artists are actively involved in the community and often create art that is representative of our lovely Pacific Northwest area. We are a friendly group who love to visit with our customers, participate in activities around this area, and thoroughly enjoy the creative atmosphere of the city.

Why should people do business with you?
We strive to present the best quality of local art while keeping our prices affordable for everyone. Many of our artists have won numerous awards with our artwork, several of our artists either currently teach art or were teachers in our previous lives, and all of our members are knowledgeable and enjoy talking about art.

What are you currently doing differently during this time?
Like everyone else, we have struggled during the pandemic so have made many changes to keep ourselves and our customers safe. We had to reduce our hours slightly and so are now closed on Mondays. We offer images on our website and have done over the phone sales with safe delivery of the art with minimal contact.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I am an experimental and adventurous artist, rarely following “the rules” but love to try new colors, mediums, techniques. My theory of art is that if it is colorful and fun, I am going to play in it!

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about your business?
People who come in for the first time are usually amazed at the variety of the art that we present. with 15 of us creating, we have traditional and non-traditional wall art, jewelry, wood carvings, exotic creature pottery, medallions, tiles, silk scarves, and art cards plus other gift items.
